24 - Bicol campus journalists' summit starts in Naga City

NAGA CITY, Nov. 24 (PNA) – Campus editors and writers from various colleges and universities in the Bicol region are attending the three-day 11th Inter-Collegiate Summit on Campus Journalism (ICSCJ), starting November 24 at the Peñafrancia Resort in Barangay Carolina here.
The Journalism Summit is an annual project of the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) Society of Junior Fellows (SJF) and supported by the National Youth Commission (NYC).
Some 60 campus journalists from 15 schools in the region are participating in the event.
Enrico Karingal Jr., SJF president, said the seminar aims to “train and develop the writing skills of campus journalists, promote free and responsible campus press and instill the genuine values of responsibility and commitment among them.”
Karingal said the 11th ICSCJ has the theme “Establishing Solidarity and Responsibility Towards a Better and Stronger Republic.”
Topics to be discussed during the summit are Photojournalism, headline writing, copy reading, news, feature, editorial and sports writings, editorial cartooning and layouting.
The highlights of the seminar will be the selection and awarding of the Campus Paper of Year. Group and individual awards will also be given to participants who will win the contests on the topics cited. (PNA)
